Ethan Moe

Ethan had learned about the first Project Greenlight contest two weeks before the due date. He had previously had interviews, articles and short stories appear in local publications, and won Third Place in the 1989/1990 Maricopa Community College Creative Writing Contest for the science fiction short story, "Leader".

“I figured it was time to do as Stephen King once wrote in a forward to The Gunslinger,'to stop goofing around with a pick and shovel and get behind the controls of one big great God a'mighty steamshovel, a sense that it was time to try and dig something big out of the sand'. It was a story that I'd been trying to write as a novel since '93 or '94.”

Two weeks later at 11:02pm, he completed a science fiction drama, The Mary Chain, and hastily began the process of uploading the script for review. Along with almost 7,000 other scripts, Ethan's never made it past the first cut. But, he had a complete full length screenplay and through the Greenlight Forum, he discovered the Phoenix Stage and Screenwriters Group (PSSG). He promptly joined. A few months later, a group of PSSG members, including Ethan, decided they wanted to produce the scripts they had been writing. This offshoot eventually became known as Lime Wrangler Productions.

Rude Awakening was LWP's second project and Ethan's first attempt to "put my money where my mouth is" in regards to bringing a script to life.

“I've always analyzed movies after watching them: noting what was good, what was brilliant, what sucked, and things I would have done differently. This is my shot.”

Ethan so thoroughly enjoyed the “complete insanity that is filmmaking,” that he has since gone on to edit the four minute short, The Heartbreaker and was Gaffer for LWP's recently premiered romantic comedy, Cookies for Callie.

In July, Ethan joined up with Caribou Moving Pictures. He recently finished principal photography as the director of The Message, a short film about a man who dies too early and comes back as a ghost to tell his wife and their niece how to save the house.

“It's amazing to me, after spending four nearly sleepless days shooting a film (then, when I did manage to sleep, dreaming about shooting films), that I'm suddenly melancholy about the fact that we're not shooting tomorrow. I love this stuff! I love every bit of it!”

The Caribou project is currently in post production and Ethan is working on the visual effects for the film. The Message will premiere at Alice Cooperstown on February (Friday) the 13th, 2004.

Ethan has also recently signed on with Draco Productions as 1st AD for the romantic feature Illusion.

Ethan's loves have always bounced between writing, computers and filmmaking. With the growing industry of digital effects and editing, he thinks it appropriate to see all of his dreams converging into one.

The whole DJ thing kind of came about by complete accident. Really. Over the past three years, Ethan (aka CyberDJ Moekandu), his closest friends, along with his brother and sister, have been throwing dances and “chill” parties at the local science fiction conventions. As an avid music fan, he figures, even if your dream job becomes your day job, it's always nice to have a hobby.
